Black, Starr & Frost, and GCAL Sponsor Women in Entertainment Breakfast Honoring
Meryl Streep
NEWPORT BEACH, CA – Alfredo J. Molina, CEO of Black, Starr & Frost, America’s first premier
jeweler, has teamed up with diamond authentication and grading service Gem Certification &
Assurance Lab (GCAL), a subsidiary of Collectors Universe, Inc. (Nasdaq: CLCT), to honor
Meryl Streep and her charity of choice, Equality Now, at The Hollywood Reporter’s
annual Women in Entertainment breakfast on Tuesday, December 5, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Ms. Streep, a two-time Academy Award winner, will receive the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award
at the breakfast, which is being presented by Lifetime Television in conjunction with the
publication of The Hollywood Reporter’s 15th annual Women in Entertainment Power 100
Special Issue.
In recognition of Ms. Streep’s award, Black, Starr & Frost is donating a breathtaking Journey
Diamond Necklace valued at $25,000, and it will be auctioned by Heritage Auction Galleries
immediately following the breakfast. The 18-karat gold and platinum necklace has three
graduated, round brilliant cut diamonds with a total weight of 2.35 carats.
"Black, Starr & Frost is committed to conducting our business with integrity, and we have had
the honor of representing nature’s most beautiful creation for nearly two centuries," Mr.
Molina stated. "We are honored to support Ms. Streep and her most worthy cause."
The necklace also is accompanied by a Source Veritas Passport diamond certificate
issued by GCAL that guarantees the quality of diamonds and assures the diamonds were sourced in
compliance with the Kimberley Process and US Clean Diamond Act. The diamonds were sourced by Pluczenik,
a Diamond Trading Company Sightholder and a diamond supplier since 1948.
Master Gemologist Appraiser Don Palmieri, the president of GCAL, said, "We are very proud to be
associated with this prestigious group of smart, influential women; and we are thrilled to be
able to support Ms. Streep's charity.".
The Source Veritas Passport is a patent-pending process of GCAL that for the
first time, assures the consumer that their diamond is compliant with the Kimberley Process from
mine to market. The Source Veritas Passport also assures that the polished
diamond was cut and polished from a rough diamond that is in compliance with the 2003 Clean
Diamond Act. The Source Veritas Passport from GCAL secures the identification of
the diamond with the "fingerprint" of the diamond using the patented Gemprint technology and stores
the digital image of the diamond fingerprint in an Internet database for positive identification.
The GCAL Gemprint is a deterrent to the switching of diamonds and can be used to recover a lost or
stolen diamond. GCAL offers a full cash-back guarantee should there be a defined error in color or
clarity grading.
Copies of the actual GCAL Source Veritas Passport issued on the Black, Starr & Frost
necklace will be placed on each seat at the breakfast with details about the December 6th auction.
